Sunday's games

The Crawdads took on the Crusaders in a hard fought game on Sunday at the SKSA September to Remember tourney. The game went to the 6th tied 11-11. The Crawdads turned it on in the 6th and the defense held up for a 17-11 finish.

The Crawdads went on to face the Banditos for the championship game. The Crawdads defense was tough in the first inning only allowing 2 runs. But then the Banditos posted 7 runs in the 2nd. Kelly bombed a shot off the fence in the 2nd but got thrown out at 2nd. Later on in the 2nd, Grant blasted a shot over the left field fence for a 3 run homer.

The Banditos were too much in the end with lots of firepower and tough defense. Final score, Crawdads 5, Banditos 16.

Congrats to the Crawdads on a 2nd place finish!

If the Crawdads can get by the Crusaders, they will get a rematch with the Banditos for the Championship.

Game 5 Crawdads vs Humble Bulldogs

1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th Total
Bulldogs 6 3 3 0 0 0 12
Crawdads 3 0 5 0 0 0 8

Game 5 was a match up between two of the top ranked teams, The Crawdads and the Humble Bullodgs. Ironically, these two teams are staying at the same hotel with the Bulldogs taking most of the bottom floor and the Crawdads occupying most of the top floor.

The Crawdads made plenty of errors and the Bulldogs took advantage and put up 6 runs in the opening frame. The Crawdads then scored 3 in the bottom of the inning. Then, in the 2nd and 3rd it was more Bulldogs as they scored 3 in each of those innings. The Crawdads battled back with 5 in the 3rd to make it a game again at 12 - 8. Then both teams went on to play tough defense the rest of the way as neither team allowed a run in the 4th, 5th or 6th innings.

The Crawdads will have to bounce back and win tomorrow to keep playing. We know you can do it boys!

Game 3 Houston Crawdads vs Lake Charles Bucs

Cameron got the scoring started early with an inside the park homerun and the rest of the boys poured on the hits as the Crawdads defeated the Lake Charles Bucs 14-1. The game was called in the 4th due to run rule. There was more great defense including a nice catch by Scotty at the plate on a foul ball and RJ chasing down a runner heading to home on a ball hit back up the middle. Scotty also blasted a shot past the Bucs defenders for a triple.

Hello to Noni from Chuck, Richard & Nancy.
Also, hello to April & Ben from Roy, RJ & Allison.

The Crawdads go 2-1 in pool play allowing only 5 runs in these 3 games. Crawdads are the 3rd seed going into bracket play on Wednesday.

Game 2 - Houston Crawdads vs Houston Cougars

Game 2 was scheduled for high noon as the Crawdads squared off against the Cougars in the rematch from the State playoffs.

The Crawdads defense was phenomenal as they shutout the Cougars 8 - 0. There were great plays from all of the boys. Some of the highlights include; Kelly and Jacob turning a double play, Cameron with a huge running catch in the outfield for the 3rd out when the Cougars had bases loaded, a line drive speared by DJ and excellent plays by Scoop himself, Jacob.

The Crawdads scored a run in the 1st, 2 more in the 3rd and poured on 5 runs in the 5th. Then, going into the botttom of the 5th, the Crawdads clamped down and got 3 quick outs to run rule the Cougars.

Game One Houston Crawdads vs. Deer Park Young Guns

The Crawdads were visitors in game one and jumped on the Young Guns early with 3 runs in the top of the 1st. The Young Guns then scored 1 run in the bottom half of the inning.

The fields were wet and the ball did not travel far in this grass infield or even in the outfield. The YGs scored again in the second to make it 3-2. The Crawdads were held scoreless in the 3rd. Then, the YG's took a 4-3 lead in the 3rd. Both teams went without a run in the 4th & 5th and it was still 4-3 going into the the 6th. After one out and a man at 1st base, the Crawdads were threating to put up some runs in the 6th but the Young Guns shortstop turned a nice double play to end the game.

OK boys, time to turn up the heat for the rest of the tourney!

Happy Belated Birthday to Kelly B!

Kelly celebrated his 8th birthday on July 3rd. He and some friends went to see the Astros game vs the Philadelphia. Phillies Most of us bailed out after the 11th inning. But, we listened on the radio on the way home as Hunter Pence homered in the bottom of the 13th to win the game. We heard Milo Hamilton say that Hunter was so excited he sprinted around the bases and was back at home plate in about 3 seconds.

Arrival Day

Well, this was supposed to be opening day followed by the skills events. But, the fields were too wet from all of the rain. The opening ceremonies have been postponed until tomorrow evening at 7pm. Also, Monday's games hve been moved from Fracsh to the Pattison Complex.

We checked in to the hotel and we along with the Humble Bulldogs are taking up most of the hotel. The boys are very excited and this looks like it's going to be a fun week.

Some of the Crawdad families headed over to dinner at Steamboat Bills for dinner. Coach Randy told us he heard this place was good. Man, this place was outstanding. Everyone seemed to really enjoyed their dinner. There was lots of fried dishes, boudin balls, gumbo, etoufee and red beans & rice dishes.

We saw several local teams at the restaurant and everyone wished each other well. Teams there were the American Avengers 7U-CP, the Houston Angels, 7U-CP and the Fairfield Express 6U. Once again, good luck to all of the teams.
